On his birth day, in front of the
woodstove.

Life was born before dawn on the
coldest day of the year here in 2004. We had tried to pen his dam
up prior to delivery in the birthing room, but it would cause her some
stress. So we reluctantly turned her back out with the herd in the
barn rather than battle pneumonia. She seemingly waited until this cold
night to deliver Life and Twist. My husband went to feed that
morning and found him dead or what seemed like it in a corner of the
barn. He quickly brought him up to the house and we placed him in
a sink of water as hot as my hands could stand it up to his neck.
We prayed for him and rubbed him vigorously for a long time and then he
began to breath again ... he came to Life. |
